Saint Valentine
Valentine was a Roman priest around the year 300, during a time when Christianity was outlawed. Legend has it that Valentine secretly performed Christian weddings in defiance of the law. For that, he was arrested, beaten and sentenced to death. While in prison, Valentine healed the jailer's daughter from blindness. Before he was executed, Valentine wrote a note to the girl wishing her happiness, signing the letter "Your Valentine."
